It's great to be home!

Allowing kitties to stay in their own home with a familiar routine greatly helps reduce their stress while you are away. At the same time, indoor only cats need stimulation and enrichment to prevent boredom and frustration. Brushing, playtime, or simply sitting and chatting with kitties can usually help them become comfortable with me. I believe that developing a relationship with their sitter and seeing the same sitter for each visit can also help make their time apart from you more trouble-free. I operate as a sole proprietor and will be the only person coming into your home. I take the security of your home and the safety of your companion animals seriously; if you will be having other guests or service persons into your home, please let me know ahead of time.

Come play with me...

Cat sitting services include cleaning cat user areas (especially litter boxes), watering house and garden plants, changing lights and bringing in mail and packages. Services for house rabbits, fish, small caged animals such as rats or mice, and outdoor/feral cats can also be arranged. Mid-day potty breaks and visits for medication/snacks/social time are available for dogs under 40 lbs. Any necessary medications or supplements can be given at no additional charge.  Subcutaneous fluids that have been prescribed by your veterinarian can be administered for an additional $10. (Clients who need only fluids given will be charged only for the visit.) Visits are 30-50 minutes, depending on my schedule (holidays are extra busy for example) and how comfortable your companion animal is with me. I require that kitties have at least a once daily visit. Sorry, but at this time overnight care is not available in client homes. Please contact me for details on boarding your cat or multiple cats in my kitty guest room. Transportation to veterinary appointments, and medication and pet supplies pick-up is available at the hourly rate.

See you tomorrow!

A free consultation in your home offers you and your cat the opportunity to meet me with no obligation. If you wish to engage KittyStar Services at that time please have a key ready and plan to fill out a release for veterinary care in the event of an emergency. You will also be asked for a local emergency contact with a house key, should any events occur which prevent me from being able to your house (extreme weather, “acts of God,” etc.) Expect this initial meeting to take about 30 minutes.

Guardians are asked to call/text/email KittyStar Services for Cats upon your arrival home to ensure your kitty's continuous care. At any time during your stay away from home, you can contact me to inquire about your kitty or to add extra visits if your trip is extended.

History

Before starting KittyStar Services in 2001, I worked at a non-profit animal welfare organization, as a lobbyist and advocate for animal issues in Washington State. A growing awareness of feral colonies and the trap/neuter/return solution led to my devotion to disadvantaged cats. It's estimated that up to 70% of cats who end up in shelters in the U.S. do not make it out; feral, shy and older felines are almost always amongst those "euthanized." Believing that all cats, whether tame kitties or community cats, deserve to be recognized as individuals with inherent rights is a cornerstone of my philosophy. Humans carry a burden of duty to not only provide care for domestic animals, but to recognize their innate emotional and psychological needs, and appreciate these as part of the relationship when you choose to share your life with a dog or cat.

After 16 years and many wonderful memories of caring for kitties in Seattle, I decided to relocate to Camano Island to enjoy island living with my family and start Flower Feline Sanctuary. I have a BA in society, ethics and human behavior and an MA in cultural studies from the University of Washington Bothell but my experiences with non-human animals have taught me the most.
